Directed by Lee Strasberg. The production began as part of the first (and only) season of the Actor's Studio Theatre. It was the final of five titles produced between 1963-1964. It opened in New York with Shirley Knight as Irina and Barbara Baxley as Natasha. It was taken to London as part of the 1965 World Theatre Festival, with George C. Scott as Vershinin, Nan Martin as Olga and Sandy Dennis as Irina. After it's failure in London, Kim Stanley would never appear on stage again (although she made film and television appearances).
